JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - On Monday, the Jackson Police Department recovered nearly a dozen stolen cars from an auto shop. It happened at Go Auto Sales on West Rankin Street.

Police were tracking down a stolen car. Their investigation led them to the shop, where they recovered 10 cars. The owner of the shop has now been arrested.

Officers expect more arrests and recoveries as this investigation continues.

“I had a suspicion that it may be more vehicles, so when we discovered that it was more, it wasn’t surprising to me,” said Sgt. Warren Hull, with the Jackson Police Department. “Sometimes, in what we call chop shops, a stolen vehicle may come in, and they may break it down for parts and use it for other vehicles, switching out vin numbers, switching out tags, repainting the vehicle, whatever they need to do at the time to prevent the vehicle from being stolen, they’ll do.”

The suspect, whose name has not been released yet, will be charged with possession of a stolen automobile. JPD’s action team and auto theft task force helped track down and recover the cars.

Police are now trying to track down the car owners to return the vehicles. Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to call 601-960-1234.
