Car break-ins and theft on the rise in Lubbock as students return to the Hub City

Lubbock, Texas — The Lubbock Police Department and South Plains Auto Theft Task Force told EverythingLubbock.com they start to see a spike in car break-ins and theft, especially when school comes back into session because there are more people around.

An investigator for South Plains Auto Theft Task Force, Michael Benson said although this problem is not a new one, they see this rise every year during this season.

Benson said, “A lot of times we hear people say, well, I left my backpack in there, but there was nothing of value in there from the person outside of the offender looking in. They don’t know whether there were valuables in there or not.”
