Major car theft ring busted: 72 vehicles recovered, multiple arrests

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) — A years-long investigation into an auto theft ring operating out of New Orleans has led to the recovery of 72 stolen vehicles and multiple arrests.
Louisiana State Police were first notified of a major cargo theft from the Norfolk Southern rail yard in November 2022. The facility, which off-loads and stores newly manufactured vehicles destined for Gulf South dealerships, reported the disappearance of 32 new vehicles within a week.
By May 2023, the number of stolen vehicles had reached 79, estimated at $4 million.
