Virginia State Police HEAT etched VINs onto the windows of 45 vehicles 

On June 4, 2022, the Newport News Police Department, the Hampton Police Department, the National Insurance Crime Bureau and the Virginia State Police’s HEAT (Help Eliminate Auto Theft) Program conducted an etching event at the Brittingham-Midtown Community Center in Newport News.  

Officers from Newport News and Hampton Police Departments etched unique VINs onto the catalytic converters of 73 vehicles while the Virginia State Police’s HEAT Program personnel etched VINs onto the windows of 45 vehicles.
