Springfield Man Arrested for May Fatal Hit and Run in Newington

West Springfield Police District—Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit have arrested a man who fled from a fatal hit and run motorcycle crash on May 12^th in Newington.

Detectives determined Michael Burghardt, 46, of Springfield was driving the 2022 BMW M440i involved in fatal hit and run crash in May. Preliminarily, detectives believe Burghardt was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Rolling Road near Delong Drive when he struck the motorcyclist, who was traveling in the southbound lanes.

Yesterday, Burghardt was arrested and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with Manslaughter and Felony Hit and Run. He is being held on no bond.
