Wake County man charged with insurance fraud, obtaining property by false pretense and filing a false report to police

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Travis Layne Ramsey, 27, of 10100 Rock Hollow Road, Raleigh, NC. Ramsey was charged with one count of insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense. Both are felonies. He was also charged with filing a false report to a police station, a misdemeanor.

According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Ramsey filed a false report to USAA stating his 2016 Jeep Cherokee had been vandalized in a parking space at his apartment complex, when instead the vehicle had been involved in a hit and run accident. He used the information to get his rental vehicle paid for by the insurer, in the amount of $1,457.08. He also told the Raleigh Police Department his vehicle had been vandalized, agents said.

According to the arrest warrant, the offenses occurred on May 22, 2024.

Rollinson was arrested on July 19, held under the Pretrial Integrity Act and appeared in Wake County District Court on Aug. 8.
