Lancaster County contractor employee charged with insurance fraud

LOWER ALLEN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) – Police in Cumberland County say the employee of a local contractor has been charged with insurance fraud for allegedly causing damage to a victim’s home and convincing them to get a replacement.

On September 11, 2023, Lower Allen Township Police responded to a home where the resident said Nicholas Bridgwater came to his door representing a Lancaster County contractor. The victim told police that Bridgwater came to his home in June and stated a recent hail storm caused damage to area roofs and that he was offering to inspect the roof for damage.

Bridgwater told the victim that if he found storm damage the victim’s insurance company would pay 100% of the cost to replace the roof, police say. After inspecting the room, police say Bridgwater told the victim there was hail damage, recommended the full roof be replaced, and “urged” the victim to sign a contract.
