Rep. Jennifer Fidler (R-Silverhill) of District 94 in Baldwin County is helping the Better Business Bureau fight fraud through the donation of grant money made available through the state’s Community Service Grant program, according to a release from the Baldwin County Legislative Delegation.

The Alabama Community Service Grant program is funding allotted to legislators to be used for educational and community improvement projects and organizations within their legislative districts.

Earlier this year, Rep. Fidler, Rep. Givens and Rep. Holk-Jones sponsored a fraud seminar called “Empower Yourself, Don’t Be a Victim of Fraud,” for constituents. The fraud seminar included topics from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) Educational Foundation, The Alabama Securities Commission, the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission Medicaid fraud division, AARP and local law enforcement including the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office.

The seminars taught attendees tools to find reputable businesses, how to identify fraud, what to do when fraudulent activity is encountered and what to do if they fall victim to fraud. Now with the help of a $6,000 community service grant, the BBB Educational Foundation can provide a video that can be viewed any time from the comfort of the residents’ own home.

“It is important that our citizens are knowledgeable about the tools available to them, the current types of fraud, and the notification process to use if they find themselves in a fraudulent activity,” Rep. Fidler said. “This video will benefit not just constituents in Baldwin County but people across Alabama.”
